"Old Ironsides"

As part of Boston's July 4th Harborfest, the U.S.S. Constitution left her berth in Charlestown, Massachusetts, sailed through Boston Harbor to Castle Island, whereupon Ft. Independence saluted "Old Ironsides" with a round from the fort's guns.  The U.S.S. Constitution in a return salute, fired hers.
It was an amazing sight to witness the 200 year old Constitution sailing past the modern city of Boston, with a fleet of private boats, public ferries, and the Massport Fireboat saluting her.

Aptly named "Old Ironsides", the U.S.S. Constitution was an integral part of the United States fight with Great Britain in winning independence.  She was launched on October 21, 1797, she defeated four British warships in the War of 1812.  The U.S.S. Constitution is the oldest commissioned warship afloat.
